He started his Haedong Kumdo training at the White Tigers Dojang in Bloemfontein under Master Liza Coetsee in 2007, at the age of 18. After receiving his second Dan at the end of 2011, he proceeded to lead junior and senior classes at White Tigers until 2013.
When he moved to Cape Town in 2014, there wasn't a single Haedong Kumdo dojang in the entire Western Cape. The establishment of Prosperity Dojang by SBN Peter Johansen in 2016 offered the opportunity to spread the style to this region.
